If you say the words “Kendrick Kiser” out loud at Speedway, the response equates to happiness. Kendrick is a senior who has competed as a three sport athlete and has actually competed in more than three sports during his time at Speedway. “ I love sports,” said Kendrick. “They are fun to play and I’m passionate about basketball and track. I want to play them as long as possible.” This past fall, Kendrick returned to the soccer pitch. “After not playing since he was younger, we were very happy to have Kendrick join our soccer program as a senior,” said varsity soccer coach Dean Heaviland. “Kendrick has amazing athletic ability and has a knack for making big plays. He was definitely be an asset for our team this season.” Currently, Kendrick is starring for the varsity boys basketball team that sits at 2-2 after four games. As a sophomore, Kendrick earned the team’s Most Improved Award and last season, he was the team’s Defensive Player of the Year. “Kendrick has been an absolute pleasure to work with so far this year,” said varsity coach Bob Wonnell, in his first season coaching the Sparkplugs. “He is as athletic a kid that I have ever coached. He is lightning fast and quick, he absolutely jumps out of the gym.” “We rely heavily on Kendrick on both of the ends of the court,” noted Wonnell. “In addition to all that brings to our team on the court, perhaps the most impressive thing about Kendrick is that he is a phenomenal student who currently carries a 4.2 GPA.” While Kendrick brings great joy to the student body and to the two sports mentioned above, his favorite sport is track. Kendr ick earned MVP honors last season in Track while being named to the All-ICC team for his victory in the long jump. Kendrick also advanced to the IHSAA Regional by placing third at the Ben Davis Sectional. In an interview at the beginning of the year, Kendrick expressed an interest in attending Purdue with plans to study pharmacy. Depending on his performance this spring in track and field, long jump might be a possibility of pursuing at Purdue. Kendrick is the son of Meghan Kiser and his brother Tobi is a junior at Speedway. He is very appreciative of his grandmother as well. “She is so outgoing, kind, and charismatic to everyone she meets and is the ultimate role model,” said Kendrick. Senior profiles are created by SHS Student Media Team Members Morgan Smith, Jonathan Berry, Hayli Clampitt, and Colten Thompson.
