Speedway's varsity volleyball team improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in ICC play after taking a dramatic five set victory over arch-rival Scecina Memorial on Thursday night. The ICC is a highly competitive volleyball conference and the victory is a huge hurdle in competing for the conference championship. The varsity hosts two talented teams on Saturday when Union County and Park Tudor visit the Morris Pollard Gymnasium. Match play begins at 9 am as the teams will play in a round-robin format. Both the boys and girls soccer teams lead the ICC standings at this early stage of the season. The girls have yet to be scored on after four matches (Herron, Scecina, Ben Davis, Covenant Christian) and are slated to host Monrovia at 10 am on Saturday. On the boys side, the #4 ranked 2A Sparkplugs have defeated two ranked squads so far and they begin a four week road trip with a Tuesday visit to Western Boone. The team had to postpone last night's match with top-ranked 1A Park Tudor due to excessive heat. Be sure to stay connected to www.speedwayathletics.com and @SparkplugSports on X (formerly Twitter) for news about rescheduling that highly anticipated matchup. The varsity football Sparkplugs open ICC play tonight against 2A #5 Scecina Memorial. There are plenty of promotional pregame events taking place tonight and we hope to exceed last week's huge crowd for this conference matchup. Game time has been moved back to 7:30 but pregame festivities inside and outside of the stadium begin at 6 p.m.
