SPEEDWAY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS

This week, we are celebrating Drew Matelic on his amazing athletic achievements! He is a four year member of the boys soccer and boys basketball programs. “Drew has always been a solid leader who leads by example and his great work ethic,” said varsity soccer coach Dean Heaviland. “Although injured and unable to play this past season, Drew was always around helping and giving advice to his teammates. Drew is a player that every coach would want on his team.” Bob Wonnell took over the varsity basketball head coach position this year and is thrilled to be working with Drew. “He is an absolute beast on the hardwood,” said Wonnell. “At 6’7, Drew has the skill, drive and competitive spirit to be as good as he wants to be.” Drew recently reached the 1000 point mark for scoring in boys basketball. While he is undecided about where he wants to attend college, Drew plans on majoring in sports management. Drew is the son of Stacy and Steve Matelic. His sister Madelynn is also a star athlete at Speedway! The sky is the limit for Drew, and everyone is excited to see where Drew and his talents go!
