Today we celebrate Briana Parra-Pino for her time spent playing for the Speedway tennis and wrestling teams! Briana has played tennis all four years of high school and she played an important role for the girls wrestling program that just finished season two.. “I first started wrestling last year,” said Briana. “I hate the conditioning, but I love when I wrestle in the matches. I've also done tennis since my freshman year, so I'll keep playing it because my friends are also playing tennis, so it makes it even more fun.” Although she may be a quiet player on the court, Briana gets the job done! “Briana has grown into the player who leads quietly with intense focus and determination,” said varsity tennis coach Karly Smith. “As she steps into her senior season, I hope she finishes strong, inspires the younger players, and leaves her mark on the court. We are very excited to have Briana back for her senior season!.” “Despite having started wrestling last year, Briana has become a quiet force to be reckoned with,” said head wrestling coach Nick Paden. “She is soft-spoken and mild off the mat, but steps into a different persona on the mat and is dominant.” Briana loves tennis and wrestling for many reasons! “They teach you discipline, give you more friends, … coaches that push you, but also encourage you.” Briana is the daughter of Felipe-Juan Parra and Rosa Pino-Suarez and is the sister to Rosa Parra-Pino. One person that Briana believes has had an influence in her life is her mom. “My mom, she has had a hard life but she has never given up,” said Briana. “She has guided me and protected me when no one else would. She has loved me and corrected me. She gives me good advice and never once said anything negative to me or tries to bring me down. Instead she helps me believe in myself.” When interviewed earlier this fall, Briana expressed an interest in studing medicine and possibly wrestling if time allows. Congratulations Briana, we can’t wait to see what you do in your future endeavors! Senior athletic profiles are published by the Speedway Student Media Team of Morgan Smith, Jonathan Berry, Hayli Clampitt, and Colten Thompson.
