Mazeed Ishola (29-3) finished third in the 175 pound weight class of the Mooresville IHSAA Regional on Saturday. The County champ and Hoosier Legends Conference champ entered the Sectional with just one regular season loss. Ishola finished second at the brutally tough Avon Sectional and then lost to Regional champ and unbeaten Sean Breedlove from Center Grove in the Regional semifinals.. Mazeed rallied to win the third place match, defeating Colton Gibson from Brownsburg, avenging a loss to Gibson at Sectionals. Mazeed will now advance to the Evansville Semi-State at the Ford Center where he will face Denny Allgood (23-10) from Bloomington South in the opening round. Allgood was the runner-up at the Bloomington Regional last weekend.A win in the opener would give Mazeed his 30th match win of the season and an opportunity one of two other 30 match winners, Tyson Barrow (36-2) of North Posey or Alijah Gohl (32-5) of Corydon Central. If Mazeed is able to win his first two matches, he will advance to the State Finals next weekend at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Mazeed is seeking to become just the second boys wrestler to qualify for State and he would be the second wrestler from Speedway to reach State this year. Freshman Janyla Dale competed at State for the Lady Sparkplugs in January.
