This week, we are celebrating senior Colten Thompson! He has given his time, dedication, and hard work to many of our activities at the high school. Colten is a four year varsity athlete in baseball and basketball, and he served as the manager for the boys soccer team for two years. Colten has credited baseball as his favorite sport, and it shows. He won the Most Improved Award his junior year, and has played on four travel teams. When asked about his plans for after high school he even said he plans on pursuing baseball at the collegiate level. “You won’t find many people working harder on the field each day than Colten. . .he definitely has been an asset since joining our program,” said varsity soccer coach Dean Heaviland. Colten loves playing and participating in sports to help represent Speedway. And varsity basketball coach Bob Wonnell is very pleased to have him in the program. “Colten is the leader of our program,” said Wonnell. “He shows up every day ready to work hard with a great attitude and brings an infectious energy to practice each day. These types of actions are invaluable to a basketball team as it goes through a long season of ups and downs.” “He is as good of a teammate and leader as I have coached and I have really enjoyed getting to know him.” Colten has had a lot of influential people in his life, but he credits his mom as being the number one. “My mom [Shandra], she inspired me to do what I want to do in life.” Colten is currently undecided on where he wants to attend college, but he wants to study radiology. Colten’s regular season play in basketball ends tonight with an HLC road game at Triton Central. Sectional is next week here at Speedway and in April, his senior baseball season will begin. No matter where it is, we can’t wait to see what you do next! Congratulations Colten! Colten is a member of the Student Media Team that has been creating these senior profiles for the athletics website. His teammates Jonathan Berry, Hayli Clampitt, and Morgan Smith helped create Colten’s profile.
