Today, we celebrate Lauren Broida, a senior at Speedway High School who serves as a manager for the volleyball team and who also participates in softball. Last season, Lauren was recognized by the Indiana Crossroads Conference as an Academic All-Conference athlete and she also participated in basketball. Lauren is the daughter of Kevin and Jennifer Broida and is joined at Speedway by her brother Michael, a freshman. Lauren enjoys playing sports as many of her friends play on the team with her. Lauren is part of the Student Media team at Speedway and is currently unsure of where she wants to attend college although Purdue and Oklahoma are two schools that she is interested in. Take a guess at Lauren’s middle name? Hint: It’s the name of a month but it’s NOT the name of the month she was born. Lauren’s middle name is September but she just celebrated her 17th birthday in June. So what has Lauren enjoyed the most during her sports participation at Speedway? “Every basketball Christmas we did a Secret Santa thing that I enjoyed,” said Broida who is not playing basketball this year. “We always got good food and I liked spending time with my friends. It was always fun to see what your friends got each other.” Who has made a memorable difference in Lauren’s life? Her mother just earned her master’s degree in physical therapy sciences. “My mom is hard working and she really is inspiring to me,” said Lauren.
