Today, we celebrate Alexis Burgos Aguayo, a senior student-athlete that represents Speedway in tennis and swimming. Currently preparing to play doubles in the boys tennis sectional later this month, Alexis will be playing an increased leadership role in the pool this winter as well. “I am a very determined person,” said Alex. “I always strike for success.” It’s this determination and enthusiasm that has been noticed by his tennis coach, Whitney Baker. “Alex has been an amazing addition to our tennis team,” said Baker. “After starting last year and never having played before, Alex worked his way into a varsity position both years.” “Anyone who watches Alex play can see his passion to compete and win,” noted Baker. “He goes full force in every point and is always looking for insight from coaches on how to improve. He is a great leader on court. He consistently stays after practice to get extra hitting in and always has a positive attitude.” Alex would like to attend Purdue University and study psychiatry. And he’s very appreciative of his grandmother’s support. “She’s the reason I believe more in myself,” said Alex. Alex is the son of Ivetlise Aguayo and Daniel Burgos Rodriguez. Alex has one brother (Jay).
