Speedway's boys soccer team, currently ranked #3 in Class 2A, opened Marion County play Monday night with a 5-2 victory over Franklin Central. Sophomore Drew Matelic opened the scoring for the Sparkplugs and then senior Kervens Saint-Paul put on a scoring clinic. The talented senior posted a first-half hat trick and then added a fourth goal in the second half. The Sparkplugs will now host the quarterfinal round of the County tournament Wednesday night (September 20th). Speedway hosts Lawrence Central at 5:30 p.m. for the right to advance to the semifinals of the County tournament on Friday night. "It would be great to have a lot of student support at the game," noted head coach Dean Heaviland. The Sparkplugs are currently 10-1 overall and 5-0 in ICC play.
