SPEEDWAY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS

The Class 2A #3 ranked soccer Sparkplugs travel to North Central High School tonight to face Southport in the semifinal round of the Marion County tournament. The Sparkplug boys have lost just once in twelve matches this year including wins over five state ranked teams. The Cardinals are 7-6-1 against a heavy 3A schedule. They advanced to Friday's game by virtue of a 2-1 win over Lawrence North. Each team played Franklin Central this year and both teams won. Speedway defeated Franklin Central in the opening round of the County tournament and the Cardinals defeated the Flashes 3-1 eight days ago. The winner of Friday night's 6 p.m. contest will face the winner of Brebeuf (10-3-1) and Pike (14-1) on Saturday night in the County championship match. That match will also be played at North Central.
