Speedway's competition season is complete in two fall sports (girls golf, boys tennis) and the IHSAA tournament series opens for two more this week. The #4 ranked Class 2A boys soccer team (12-3, 6-0 ICC) begins its quest for a sectional three-peat tonight as the Sparkplugs face Christel House. With a win, the Sparkplugs would play the winner of tonight's Beech Grove/Purdue Poly matchup on Wednesday. Bishop Chatard and Washington drew opening round byes and face each other Wednesday at 7 p.m. The boys soccer sectional championship match takes place at 2 p.m. Saturday. All boys sectional matches are at Bishop Chatard. The girls soccer team (10-2-2, 5-1 ICC) hosts this year's IHSAA Sectional. The girls, ranked #17 in this year's final coaches poll drew top ranked Brebeuf as its opening opponent. They will host the Braves Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. The winning team will face #3 ranked Guerin Catholic at 7 p.m. on Thursday night. Lebanon and Bishop Chatard will play at 5 p.m. Thursday night in the other semifinal match as this year's sectional features five teams. The championship match is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday night. The boys tennis team finished its season with a 0-5 loss to a Ben Davis team they had faced three times in nine days. And in girls golf, the girls finished eighth in the Guerin sectional. The top two teams in the sectional field (Carmel and Westfield) also finished 1-2 at State this last weekend. The girls volleyball team hosts the IHSAA Class 3A sectional next week. The girls drew an opening round bye. More information on the draw will be shared next week.
