SPEEDWAY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS

Today, we are celebrating senior Emanuel Estrella, a member of Speedway’s swimming and football programs. Emanuel’s work ethic serves as a model to his teammates according to his coaches. “Emanuel has worked so hard and come so far over the last three seasons,” noted swimming coach Kylie Keevy. “He could barely swim a 25 without drowning his freshman year and he ended up being one of our fastest 50 freestylers and anchoring the boys medley relay his junior year.” “Emanuel will do anything that you ask of him and always comes to practice with a smile,” said Keevy. “I look forward to one more season with him and am excited to see how much he continues to improve.” “I love swimming because it’s a sport that is me vs. me in which it’s only you when you go inside or outside the pool,” said Emanuel. “I like how we work as a family because we all care for each other and we learn a lot and have fun together as a team.” “In football, I like it because it’s a sport that teach(es) you life lessons,” added Emanuel. “I like to spend time with my friends there and run and play. The coaches help you improve each day and they care about you.” “Emanuel has played football the last two years and has been a tremendous addition to the team,” said varsity football coach Shane Clampitt. “He is a wonderful teammate who works hard every day at practice. He has improved every day and has been a great kid to coach.” Emanuel’s willingness to work hard and enjoy challenges is inspired by his father. “The way he acts during heard problems, it’s just something that teach(es) me that everything has a solution,” said Emanuel. “The way to try new things without fear, he just push(es) me to do things and he always supports me on everything I do. I could never ask for a better person.” Emanuel would like to attend ISU to study aviation. “I want to be an airline pilot some day,” said Emanuel. Emanuel’s parents are Isaac and Rosa Estrella.
