Today, we celebrate Tyreese Johnson, a senior football player at Speedway High School. The youngest of four children, Tyreee has great admiration for her mother, Teresa Owens. “My mother never complains, she just gets up and goes,” said Tyreese. Over the years, Tyreese had to deal with injuries that kept him off of the field quite a bit. “Tyreese is a super-talented football player who when healthy and on the field made us a much better football team,” said varsity football coach Shane Clampitt. “He started for three years and we didn’t lose many games when he was able to play the whole game. He was a physical player who will be hard to replace.” Despite missing three games due to injury, Tyreese was the team’s second leading rusher this season and he accrued over 500 yards of offense in three seasons. Defensively, Johnson had 74 tackles as a sophomore and generated nearly 100 more over his final two seasons despite missing time due to injury. What drove Tyreese on the football field? The drive to “become a better man.” Tyreese played football to work on “.... communication, teamwork skills, and my physique.” Tyreese is interested in pursuing a career in real estate. In addition to his mother, Tyreese has a sister (Amber) and two brothers (Kaleb, Marcus).
