Celebrating Miles Miller

Aspiring for championships requires commitment and dedication. It requires buy-in. Without flinching, senior Miles Miller has been that bedrock performer for the football and wrestling programs at Speedway. Today, we celebrate Miles Miller and his athletic accomplishments at Speedway. “For the past three years, Coach Norris and I have been working to make Speedway wrestling relevant and competitive again,” said head coach Nick Paden. “Miles has been the nucleus of this resurgence. In 2021 with only five teammates, Miles came in with a great attitude every day and worked as hard as he could to get better.” “That offseason, Miles began inviting friends and fellow athletes to join the team,” reflected Paden. “I truly believe the influence and example of Miles is a big reason why we have 31 wrestlers on our team this year.” “... Wrestling benefits you mentally and physically,” said Miles. “Wrestling has allowed me to really figure out who I am by going to practice and pushing my limits every day.” “Miles is the type of athlete every coach wants,” noted Paden. “He works hard every day, sometimes even staying after practice to get extra work in. He is a great leader both on and off the mat. He always encourages his teammates, and he is extremely reliable.” A two-time recipient of the program’s Most Valuable Wrestler award, Miles also earned a fifth place finish at the Indy Nationals meet. Earlier this month, Miller was the runner-up in the ICC meet. Tomorrow, he hopes to earn a repeat visit to the IHSAA regional when he open competition in the IHSAA sectional meet at Avon. Commitment was also a staple of Miller’s participation for the football Plugs. “Miles was a four year football player who has been a key piece of our defense the last two season,” stated head football coach Shane Clampitt. “Miles always put the team first and often moved positions to help our team be successful,” noted Clampitt. “His attitude and determination will be missed.” “Football taught me how important teamwork was and how important even the smallest role can effect the outcome of your goals,” noted Miles. As Miles wraps up his athletic career at Speedway, his legacy will be one of leadership and commitment to doing his very best. And he hopes to continue his wrestling career at Marian University while pursuing his studies in pastoral leadership. “Ultimately God is the biggest influence in my life,” said Miles. “Without God, I wouldn’t be able to be where I am in life today. God made the path for me and all I have to do is walk down that path. Everything I do is so I can glorify God.” “There will be big hole to fill when Miles graduates but I know that he will be successful in life because of the character he possesses,” said Paden.
