“Sports help you build strong relationships with others, teaches you discipline, and helps you learn how to persevere through adversity.” That’s the philosophy of Paige Powell, who we celebrate today as a senior student-athlete at Speedway. Paige has completed participation in soccer and basketball and is preparing for her senior season in softball. “Her attitude and effort are like no other,” reflected head soccer coach Stacie Burke. “She never gives up. She is always up for a challenge.” During her athletic career at Speedway, Paige earned Most Improved awards in soccer and softball. She also earned Academic All-ICC honors in all of her sports as a junior. Speedway alum and coach JD Clampitt has greatly influenced Powell. “He has coached me for many years and helped me gain confidence in sports and in myself,” noted Paige. “He has always been there for me when I needed him.” “I have played sports since I was 4 and I have built relationships … that have been the closest bonds I’ve ever made with people,” said Paige. “I have the best friends I have today because of the sports I play.” The daughter of Michelle and Tim Powell and stepmom Dawn Powell has two older siblings: Sarah and Neveah. Paige plans on attending Southern Indiana to study Occupational Therapy.
