SPEEDWAY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS

The IHSAA held its annual state tournament pairings show on Sunday evening. This year, the Sparkplugs (9-11, 4-2 ICC) will compete in the Class 3A sectional at Beech Grove. The Sparkplugs will open IHSAA tournament play on Tuesday February 27th tangling with Purdue Poly (13-5, 4-0 Greater Indianapolis) in the 7:30 p.m. quarterfinal. The winner of this game will play George Washington (11-11, 4-1 Greater Indianapolis) in the sectional semifinal on Friday March 1st. The Sparkplugs have one regular season game to play and it will provide a meaningful competitive opportunity in advance of the tournament. Speedway travels to Triton Central (15-6, 4-2 ICC) this Friday. The winner of this game will earn second place outright in the conference while the loser will tie Lutheran for third place.
