Celebrating Devin Robinson

It’s a big night for senior Devin Robinson, a three-sport student athlete at Speedway. For Devin and his basketball teammates, they get a chance tonight to win second place in the Indiana Crossroads Conference standings. Next week, the Sparkplugs will attempt to win Speedway’s thirteenth sectional trophy when they participate in the Class 3A Beech Grove Sectional. Basketball coach Chuck Bennett thinks it’s very simple why their team has a great chance to do both these next few days. “Devin has become one of the best senior leaders we have had,” said Bennett. “Devin is what we would call the ‘silent assassin.’ He truly embodies being about impact and not attention.” “Because he is one of our hardest workers and most consistent performers, his impact attracts attention,” noted Bennett. “He is our best defender and has made some clutch three pointers this season.” Last season, Devin earned the Service Award from the football program and as a freshman on the track team, Devin earned the honor of being named ‘Thrower of the Year.’ According to Bennett, it’s his leadership attributes that make him stand out. “We are most proud of the leader and role model Devin has become in our program,” said Bennett. “This carries over to other sports, the classroom, and the hallways. Another good representative of being a good person, good student, and good player.” Varsity football coach Shane Clampitt echoed Bennett's observations. "Devin was a four year starter for the football program," said Clampitt. "He was a captain for the last two years. Devin was a great leader for the program, he would always do whatever was asked from the coaches." "Devin never complained about not getting some of the attention other players got," added Clampitt. "Devin is the kind of kid you want fifty of. He works hard and leads by example." For Devin, many of these attributes that he displays can be credited to the influence of his older brother Bryce. “He’s went through a lot of injuries and difficulties in his life including his health,” said Devin. “He continued to push through all of those challenges to where I bet most people didn’t even realize what he was going through.” “I play the sports I play because I love them and I’ve been playing them since I was little,” added Devin. “I play them to be with my friends and build those relationships and talk to new people that I might not have talked to before playing sports with them.” Devin’s basketball career may end in the next few weeks but he is considering playing college football. He has not decided on what college to attend or what to study but whatever he decides to do, he will have the support of his family. Devin is the son of Charles Robinson, Jr. and Anitria Robinson-Wiggles.
