Speedway’s varsity boys basketball team suffered disappointment Friday night, losing a 68-59 decision on the road to Triton Central (16-6, 5-2 ICC). The loss dropped the Sparkplugs to 9-12 and 4-3 in ICC play, putting Speedway in a tie for third place with Lutheran. IHSAA sectional play begins Tuesday night at the Beech Grove tournament site. The Sparkplugs hope to reach double digit wins for the season and to do that, they’ll need to play solidly against a strong Purdue Poly squad (13-7, 4-0 Greater Indianapolis). The Techhies captured the East division crown in Greater Indianapolis conference play and the team that finished second in the West (George Washington) awaits the winner of the Speedway/Purdue Poly sectional opener in a Friday night semifinal.
