Today, we celebrate Kervens Saint-Paul, a senior soccer standout at Speedway. During his career at Speedway, Kervens helped the Sparkplugs capture multiple ICC and sectional championships. From the start of his time at Speedway, Kervens has made a huge impact on life at Speedway. “Kervens has been a pleasure to work ever since he joined our team during winter workouts his sophomore year,” reflected boys soccer coach Dean Heaviland. “His smile was always something that the coaches would look forward to, and I’m not sure that we have had a more polite player the past many years.” “Kervens play on the field was also second to none,” added Heaviland. “He was a two-time ICC Player of the Year.” Kervens was also named All-County and All-District and led the team to back-to-back Regional championshp games while posting 40 goals this past year, ranking him second state-wide.” “I think playing this sport gives me the opportiuny to be a better person and the facility to understand what does it mean to work as a team,” said Saint-Paul. Kervens also is solid in the classroom, being named to the All-Conference Academic team. His soccer skills and academic exploits have earned him admission to Wabash College. Kervens hopes to study business and he will join Speedway graduate Jose Escalante (SHS ‘22) on the soccer pitch for the Little Giants. “Kervens will be missed more for his great attitude and character and what he meant to the team,” noted Heaviland. Kervens lives with Amazan Jergens and has two siblings: Amazon Worlfdji, a fourth grader, and Amazan Haydensley. Kervens is the son of the late Valeus Youdline. He greatly appreciates his stepfather. “He has overcome so many situations,” said Kervens. “He is my hero.”
