Today we are celebrating Landon Short. The talented multi-sport athlete recently completed his senior season playing basketball. He had his football season cut short by injury but he was able to rehab and compete for virtually all of his basketball season. And Landon may be trying something new this spring: golf. Landon has enjoyed his many athletic experiences. “It builds relationships with some great people and teaches you life lessons as well.” Landon has gathered rebounding and sportsmanship awards in basketball and he was also named Most Improved one season for football. “Landon has represented Speedway Basketball exceptionally for six years,” said head coach Chuck Bennett. “He embodies what we ask our players to be … a good person good student, and a good player.” “This year, we have seen a little more urgency due to his football injury,” noted Bennett in a late-season interview. “He has been a three-year starter for us and is one of our most consistent rebounders.” Landon’s sister Kendall graduated in 2021 and was a member of the 2018 state championship softball team. Younger sister Mallory (SHS ‘27) made significant contributions to the sectional championship volleyball team. And Landon’s grandparents also attended Speedway. “Landon is … a leader with our youth programs and in the stands supporting other Speedway sports,” noted Bennett. His leadership on and off the court will be missed.” Landon plans on attending IU to study business and he is proud of his biggest supporter. “My mom has always pushed me to do more,” said Landon. “She has always loved me unconditionally through all my hard times.”
