SPEEDWAY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS

Today, the athletic department is celebrating Javarii Simon, a senior student-athlete representing the football program at Speedway High School. The fall was busy for Javarii and his personality is contagious, so much that he was named the Homecoming King at Speedway this year. “Javarii was one of the most enjoyable players I have ever gotten to coach,” said head football coach Shane Clampitt. “His positive energy was contagious and the other players responded to that.” So what were Javarii’s motivations for playing football? “The community and environment is inviting,” said Javarii. “It is accepting and it pushes you to be great.” “Javarii was always working hard but doing it with a smile on his face,” noted Clampitt. Not only does Javarii have the support of his football teammates and coaches, he also acknowledges a certain math teacher who is in his corner, Lori Doran. “Ms. Doran (offers) continuous support and advice,” said Javarii. This fall, Javarii hopes to study exercise science and kinesiology at Indiana University in Bloomington.
