Today, we are celebrating Ben Wilson, a three-sport senior athlete at Speedway. There are many lessons to be learned from playing high school sports and Ben is no exception to that philosophy that he sums up in one sentence. “Athletics keeps me busy and teaches me discipline,” said Wilson. Varsity football coach Shane Clampitt feels strongly that Wilson brought many positive attributes to his program. “He worked really hard in the weight room and on the field to get his opportunity to play,” said Clampitt. “Ben was a two-year starter at DB. He was always in the right place and doing the right thing on the field.” “Through hard work and perseverance, Ben made himself invaluable to our football program.” And whether aware of it or not, Clampitt’s impact on the talented senior were essential to his growth as a young man. “I feel like he’s (Clampitt) the one that shaped me into the man that I am today,” said Wilson. “And he is someone that I can always come to if I need help.” Earlier this year, Wilson expressed an interest in Religious Studies as his college major and he also was considering exploring playing football at the college level. Wilson has also participated in wrestling and track at Speedway. Wilson lives with his grandmother Deborah Merritt and is the son of Anthony Wilson and the late Melissa Merritt. He has three brothers and sisters: Tyler Jones, Aaron Jones, and Alanna Wilson.
