Today, we celebrate senior Simon Win, a member of the boys tennis team at Speedway. It was Simon’s first year playing tennis and coach Whitney Baker was thrilled to have Simon join the team. “Simon is such an athlete and he took to tennis very quickly,” noted Baker. This then made me angry (jokingly haha) because I wished I could’ve had Simon on the team all four years! He showed a great eye for tennis speed and quickness.” “I think his experience playing volleyball definitely helped transport his tennis game into the next level,” added Baker. “By the end of the season, he had worked his way into the varsity sectional roster after never having played tennis officially before August.” “I enjoy being active and playing with or against other people as a competition,” said Win. “It makes me feel productive and like I’m bettering myself physically.” “He was always willing to absorb new information, talk game critiques, and strategy,” recalled Baker. “He was definitely a tennis sponge this fall.” Simon is planning on attending IU-Indianapolis after graduation and he’d like to study business. He also might pursue club volleyball to continue that competitive edge. But before leaving Speedway, he would like to recognize math teacher Bryan Passwater. “I eat lunch in his room and it’s just a comfortable environment,” said Win. “I feel like he tries to include everyone as much as he can. He’s smart and he makes class enjoyable. I like to focus in his class more than my other classes….” Simon is the son of Ehdoh and Lah Paw Victor. He also has a sister, Eh Bluth Sho.
