Today, we celebrate senior student-athlete Hunter Woodlock, a member of the tennis and baseball teams at Speedway. He played multiple positions for both programs and tennis coach Whitney Baker slotted Hunter in the number one singles position for the last two seasons. “Hunter is a tennis player in the true sense of the words,” said Baker. “He is a player that many opposing players and coaches would watch and comment that he has natural tennis skill. Whether it be his tennis strokes, his serve, or his net play, Hunter is full of tennis potential and has grown a lot in the game.” Hunter was a two time MVP in tennis and also earned the Most Improved Award. “Hunter has shown incredible physical and mental growth these four years,” noted Baker. “He started as a freshman at a varsity doubles position to work his way up to the varsity one singles position. Playing #1 singles is a very challenging position to be in because you are always playing the best player on the opposing team, you always need to be ready.” The push to keep going and to improve is a direct influence of Hunter’s father Tim. “He always pushed me to be my best self,” said Hunter. “He always wanted the best for me.” “Hunter always prepared himself before every match to be at his best level,” said Baker. Hunter and the other seniors will definitely be missed, they have left a great mark on our tennis program.” Woodlock’s willingness to do anything and play anywhere will come in handy for first year varsity baseball coach Matt Burke. The Sparkplugs played in the Marion County championship last spring and expect to be competitive again this year. And for Hunter, he just enjoys playing baseball to be “... with my friends.” After graduation, Hunter plans to enter the workforce directly. He is the son of Tim and Jennifer Woodlock and his siblings include Logan, Corbin and Zach Woodlock.
