Speedway's athletic program takes a step away for the rest of March. That said, the Sparkplug spring athletes return the first week of April to meaningful competition when school resumes on April 2nd. The baseball and softball Sparkplugs have home games on April 2nd. Cardinal Ritter visits the Sparkplug baseball compound on the 2nd before the boys travel to Eagledale Little League the next afternoon. Meanwhile the softball Sparkplugs host Bishop Chatard in a non-conference matchup on the 2nd. The Sparkplug girls host Lawrence North on Thursday and both teams have morning games scheduled for April 6th as of today. On Thursday April 4th, the Sparkplug track program hosts Indian Creek, Beech Grove, and Covenant Christian to kick off their outdoor season. It will be the first of four straight meets hosted by the Sparkplug boys and girls. The Sparkplug girls tennis team finished second in the ICC last season and as sectional runner-up. Their quest to take one more step forward to capture two championships begins Saturday April 6th when the girls host Lutheran in a 10 am matchup. The girls host their first seven matches of the season that will take place between April 6th and April 17th. As for boys golf, the Sparkplugs will not begin their competition season until April 13th when they compete in the Cardinal Ritter Classic at the Eagle Creek Golf Club.
