Oxford Languages defines leadership as the action of leading a group or organization. While that may be true, senior Camden Bennett embodies a sense of leadership that incorporates so much more. “Camden so far has exemplified our 2024-25 quote for the season,” says his father Chuck who is the long-time boys basketball coach at Speedway. “It (the quote) comes from Joe Tiller, "Do what you are supposed to do, When you are supposed to do it, How it is supposed to be done. And Do It Every Time." “Cam, a man of few words, but leads by example,” said varsity golf coach Geoff Mahan. “His work ethic and drive at honing his craft is unmatched.” The youngest son of Chuck and Kim Bennett, Camden is an outstanding student in the classroom who ranks twelfth out of 117 students. His ability to balance his academics, his athletics, and his commitment to a variety of activities outside of school is impressive. “Camden has been a model of consistency for four years in our program,” said Coach Bennett. “He excels in the classroom, he excels off the court (helps to coach 3rd/4th grade, is a part of our elementary Reading Buddy program, and works with our 3x3x3 skills camp for 1st/2nd grade), and then he is passionate about basketball and golf.” Camden’s approach to his passions is pretty straightforward. He works to “get better and improve to be the best I can,” said Camden. He likes “getting to know people and playing with friends.” “Cam is the leader of our Regional qualifying squad,” said Mahan. “He has put in the extra time in the off-season to put himself in a position to make a run at qualifying for the State Championship. He is a mentor to the younger guys, and an overall exceptional person.” The 2024 MVP of the golf team who also earned Most Improved honors for golf in 2023, Camden has been recognized for his hard work in the classroom, earning Academic All-ICC honors. The hard-working senior credits his father for much of his approach to life. “Dad always pushed me to be the best version of myself I can be and instilled a great work ethic that will carry me far beyond sports,” noted Camden. “He has supported me with whatever I chose to do and was a great role model throughout my life.”
