The athletic career of Alasdair Curts at Speedway is approaching its final few weeks. Having completed his senior season in tennis earlier this year, the Sparkplug swimmer is preparing for the sectional in mid-February. He has been very appreciative of what he’s learned participating in athletics at Speedway. “I believe that playing tennis and participating in swimming has improved my ability to deal with challenges in different ways.,” said Curts. “Tennis has helped me by improving my problem solving skills. Swimming has helped me by allowing me a way to just decompress after a long day at school because in the water, it is just me and my thoughts.” “Swimming and tennis sharpen my mind and help me deal with life.” “Alasdair has been a wonderful addition to the (swim) team,” said swim coach Sarah Reuter. “He brings humor and fun to the team. The other swimmers look up to him and they all have a great relationship with each other.” “Alasdair is a hard worker in the pool and pushes himself in practice every day,” noted Reuter. “He has overcome some hurdles as a swimmer which has been amazing as a coach to see. I have really enjoyed having Ali on the team this year.” The future Chemical Engineering student spent multiple seasons on the tennis court and advanced to the ICC championship in 2 doubles in August. “Alasdair contributed another solid, gritty season year,” said tennis coach Rob Davies. “Always one to squeeze in a little more practice time when available, he showed great flexibility to help the team in multiple positions and had his most wins this season.” Curts plans on playing tennis recreationally beyond Speedway and enjoyed the lessons learned inside and outside of the classroom. “Swimming and tennis sharpen my mind and help me deal with life.” Alasdair is the son of science department chairperson Tim Curts and his wife Jackie who is active in her support of the athletics and fine arts programs at Speedway. Alasdair’s older brother Duncan is a graduate of Speedway.
