Speedway's varsity football team opens IHSAA tournament play tonight. The Sparkplugs (1-8, 0-5 HLC) compete in Sectional 29 and will travel to Crawfordsville (4-5, 2-5 Monon). Tonight's game starts at 7 p.m. While the Sparkplugs worked through a rough regular season record, the Sparkplugs are a slight favorite in tonight's contest according to the Sagarin ratings. The Sparkplugs schedule ranked as the 63rd toughest in all six classes this season and the combined records of the teams played was 53-22. With a win, the Sparkplugs would play the winner of the Hamilton Heights, Guerin Catholic matchup. Dependent on the winner of that contest, the Sparkplugs still might have a chance to host a Sectional contest at the new Ralph Johnson Field.
