This week, Grant Haste is being celebrated for his accomplishments in both cross country and swimming. He also plays volleyball outside of school and he also competed in the West Indianapolis Swimming club team his sophomore year. Grant is not only is a very hard worker, but he has also been a great teammate to all! “Grant Haste has lettered in Cross Country all four years of high school and is probably one of the biggest supporters of his teammates that I have ever coached," said head cross country coach Brian Hunteman. "Grant has an incredible work ethic and that has led to him being able to accomplish multiple goals." Over his years of running cross country and swimming, Grant has been earned the Most Improved Athlete award in both cross country and swimming. Grant also swam on the 400 free relay team that won first place at the ICC meet. conference. He also placed third in the 200 free at conference. Grant believes there are many positives to running cross country. “Running Cross Country is very rewarding," said Grant. "You work your butt off for the entire summer, the entire fall, and all that work pays off once you finish the final races in October/November." Two adults that Grant wants to recognize for being an influence in his life are Brian and Erika Hunteman. “The two of them have helped walk (or rather run) me through all four years of Cross Country," said Grant. "They have supported me running and have helped me with all sorts of things, from having serious conversations to helping plan and map out what the following year will look like for running and training. I am really appreciative of them both, and they have been huge influences for me." Earlier this fall when asked, Grant was unsure where he wants to attend college but he is interested in studying early childhood education/elementary education and wants to continue his volleyball career at the Division III or Division II level while continuing to run, swim, and bike on his own. Grant is the son of Mary Haste and Ryan Haste and is the brother to Elijah (10th grade), Anna (7th grade), and Logan (Wheeler Elementary). The senior profiles for the athletics department are prepared by SHS Student Media team members Morgan Smith, Hayli Clampitt, Colten Thompson, and Jonathan Berry.
