Joey Heaviland is a senior captain for the soccer team and an amazing example of how a Sparkplug should be. A four year varsity soccer team member and a part of the kicking team for the varsity football team, Joey is considering joining the boys golf team this spring. “A senior captain, four year varsity member and two-year All-Conference team member, Joey has a great knack for seeing the field and putting the ball on his teammate’s foot from anywhere on the field,” said varsity soccer coach Dean Heaviland, Joey's father. Joey has won many awards including being named the Player/Teammate of the Year, earning three all-conference team awards, and being named an IndyStar Player to Watch. And as much as he enjoyed playing soccer, Joey would like to attend college and be a kicker on the football team. Academically, wherever Joey ends up attending college, Joey plans on studying Sports Nutrition or Sports Management. Even though he will graduate in May 2026, Joey is a perfect example of what it means to be a Sparkplug. The senior profiles for the athletics department are prepared by SHS Student Media team members Morgan Smith, Hayli Clampitt, Colten Thompson, and Jonathan Berry.
