It's a big weekend for Speedway's fall sports teams. Operation Football continues tonight and it's a big challenge for the Sparkplugs as they travel to Class 1A defending state champ Lutheran. Saturday, four teams are in action. The cross country teams travel to Taylor University Saturday to compete in the Delta Eagle Invitational. It is the final regular season meet for both teams and a tuneup for next weekend's Ben Davis Sectional. . At Edinburgh, the varsity girls conclude their season with competition at the Edinburgh Invitational. Entering the tournament, the girls are 17-6 overall and they finished ICC play at 4-3. Last year, the girls advanced to the tournament championship match, winning three matches on the day. Next week, the girls host the Class 3A sectional. The girls drew an opening round bye and they will play a semifinal match on Saturday October 14th at approximately 1 p.m. Their opponent will be either Christel House or Purdue Polytechnic. With a win, the girls will advance to the championship match Saturday night. And at Bishop Chatard, the #4 ranked Class 2A boys soccer team will look to make it three straight sectional championship trophies when they take on Bishop Chatard at 2 pm in an IHSAA Sectional championship match. This week, the boys have defeated Christel House (6-1) and Purdue Polytechnic (8-0). With a win, the boys will host a Class 2A regional match against either South Dearborn or Madison. Those schools compete Saturday night. The Sparkplugs have played South Dearborn each of the last two years in the regionals, defeating South Dearborn both times.
