Today, we are honoring Chloe Ellett, a senior multi-sport athlete at Speedway High School. Chloe participates in soccer, girls basketball and track while also representing the best academically in a rigorous AP curriculum. For her efforts, Chloe was recognized last season as Academic-All Conference in all three sports. “Chloe is an amazing athlete,” said varsity soccer coach Stacie Burke. “Her speed is unmatched on the soccer field. She always works hard on the field and is determined to chase down anybody that gets on the defensive half.” “Chloe’s positive attitude and determination are some her best qualities on and off the field,” added Burke. This attitude permeated through a soccer program that was 46-13-5 overall and 21-3 in ICC play during Chloe’s career. In a few days, Chloe and her basketball teammates will kick off a campaign where they will again pursue an elusive sectional championship. That goal has been in the works for a long time. “Chloe has been a staple in our program since elementary school,” said varsity basketball coach Joe Smith. “She has a tireless work ethic in basketball and it shows in her play. She has committed to many training sessions with her AAU team as well as ours and her work is definitely showing this season. Chloe is a servant-leader at heart...” Chloe has played the last six seasons with the Indiana Sirens and her speed also plays a role on the girls track team where she and three other girls set a school record in the 4 * 100 relay. This desire to push herself has been supported by her athletic experiences. “Sports have helped me become a stronger person,” said Ellett. “Not just physically, sports have helped me build character. I learned leadership skills and how to persevere through adversity. Sports have also helped me make bonds with my teammates, who became my best friends.” Chloe is interested in pursuing elementary education as a career path and one of her seventh grade teachers played a huge role in her formative years. “Mrs. Carlson was not just great at teaching English she was great at teaching her students to be as kind as her,” noted Chloe. “She always put her students first. She taught me to always love everyone you encounter because you never know their story.” Chloe is the daughter of Kent and Amy Ellett. She has two siblings (Quentin, Christina) who are also graduates of Speedway.
