Tonight is Senior Night for the girls basketball program. It also provides an opportunity for the Sparkplugs (13-6, 5-1 ICC) to earn no worse than an outright runner-up spot in ICC play if they can defeat a challenging opponent, the Cascade Cadets (11-10, 5-1 ICC). In fact, both teams trail a Triton Central team (16-6, 6-0 ICC) that travels to Beech Grove (14-7, 4-2 ICC) tonight so a chance to share the ICC title is still possible for the winner of tonight’s Speedway-Cascade contest. Speedway and Cascade both compete in Class 3A this season and both teams enter the contest on a four-game win streak. The Sparkplugs defeated ICC rival Lutheran on Tuesday night while the Cadets defeated Bethesda Christian by six points earlier this week. This season, both teams have wins over common opponents like Cardinal Ritter, Scecina, Lutheran, Monrovia, South Putnam, and Western Boone. Both teams have also fallen to Whiteland and Triton Central. This is a pretty even matchup but the Cadets have won the last two games in the series. For seniors Audrey Burrell, Alex DeLisle, Chloe Ellett, Daniella Galvez, Reagan Hendry (pictured at right with managers Isabel Moreno, Caressa Redd, and Br yna Stewart), this will be a chance to win the final game in the rivalry. For the Cadets, it’s their final regular season contest in the ICC as they move to the Western Indiana Conference next fall.
