Speedway's girls basketball team captured its first sectional championship since 2013, defeating Purdue Poly 52-42 in Saturday night's 3A sectional championship game. The Sparkplugs took a five point lead in the half and doubled that lead in the pivotal fourth quarter to win the program's fourth sectional title and first in Class 3A. The win earns the Sparkplugs (16-7) a Class 3A Regional championship matchup with Danville (22-3) on Saturday February 10th. They will play in the 4 pm game at the Southmont Regional site. This game will be followed by a 2A matchup between #3 Eastern Hancock (23-1) and Parke Heritage (23-3).
