SPEEDWAY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS

If you like high school basketball and you're a Speedway fan, there are plenty of opportunities to support your Sparkplug hoopers this weekend. Tonight, the varsity boys basketball Sparkplugs (8-9, 3-2 ICC) will host Metropolitan (8-11, 2-3 Greater Indy West) at 7:30 p.m. The JV Sparkplugs will get a full workout this weekend. They entertain Metropolitan tonight at 6 and then turn around to play in the JV Valentine's Shootout at Covenant Christian. They will play the host Warriors at 9 a.m. and then play either Herron or Lutheran in the second game of the tournament later tomorrow. The end of Operation Basketball this weekend takes place tomorrow at 4 p.m. Your 3A Sectional champion Lady Sparkplugs (16-7, 5-2 ICC) travel to Southmont for a 4 p.m. Regional championship matchup with Danville (22-3, 7-0 Sagamore). The winner advances to next weekend's IHSAA Class 3A Semi-State at a site to be determined.
