Marcela Fernandez is a dedicated athlete and an active member of the Speedway community. She has played tennis and soccer and she is also serves as a manager for the girls basketball program.. “Marcela is a joy to have on the team,” said varsity soccer coach Stacie Burke. “She always comes with a positive attitude.” Marcela has had a great time playing sports for Speedway throughout her time here and has credited her favorite reason for playing sports as the memories she has made with friends and through competition. “Marcela began playing tennis as a beginner and she has shown such passion for the game,” said varsity tennis coach Karly Smith. ‘She loves playing the game and learning how to do better. She is an outstanding teammate to those around her.” Marcela is appreciative of her father (Nelson) as a role model. “He always sees something of myself that I’m not able to see,” said Marcela who is hoping to attend IU Bloomington to pursue “something in the medical field.” Marcela’s generosity and passion for supporting others is impressive. “ I would like to travel to places and help the people that really need it,” noted Marcela. The senior profiles are compiled by SHS Student Media Team Mambers Morgan Smith, Jonathan Berry, Hayli Clampitt, and Colten Thompson.
