“Aria is the kind of player every coach loves to have on their team.” Former varsity softball coach Katie Paden will miss working with Aria Graves, today's featured Speedway senior student-athlete. “She has grown tremendously as a leader over the years. Dependable, hardworking, and always giving 100%.” Aria not only plays multiple positions for the softball Plugs, she has played five seasons of travel softball for the Riveters. “I’m the last standing original from the very first Riveter team,” said Aria. At Speedway, “Softball creates a sense of family not only on the inside but also the outside of the school.” “Aria is a great leader who does everything be example,” said former softball assistant coach JD Clampitt. “I wish we had more kids like her.” Adds Paden, “Her vocal presence on the field inspires her teammates and keeps everyone focused.” Would Aria consider playing college softball? “I would love to play if I get the opportunity,” said Graves. “But, I also know it might be hard to do with what I want to do in college.” While she was undecided what she wanted to study in college at the beginning of the school year, Aria did say she would like to attend Marian. The daughter of Adam and Joanne Graves, Aria has an older sister (Betty Miller) as well as a nine-year-old brother AJ who is a fourth grader at Allison. As a senior, Aria is involved in many activities as she winds down her time at Speedway. “Aria shows the same dedication and leadership in all she does,” added Paden. “Her commitment, passion, and well-rounded excellence truly set her apart.” The senior profiles for the athletics department are prepared by SHS Student Media team members Morgan Smith, Hayli Clampitt, Colten Thompson, and Jonathan Berry.
